MAT RIVER PORT SUMMARY

Mid America Terminals, Inc. (MAT), is an Indiana corporation established in April 2005.  MAT is currently developing a river port that will facilitate economic development for Southern Indiana and the Midwest. The river port will consist of approximately 900 acres of fee simple land zoned heavy industrial, situated above the 100-year flood plain in Hammond South Township, Spencer County, Indiana.  The river port also consists of approximately one mile of riverfront located on the Ohio River at Mile Marker 742 to 743.  MAT will be a trans-loading multi-commodity truck, rail, and river facility with the potential of becoming one of the premier privately owned public river port facilities located within the inland river system.

On January 31, 2007, American Electric Power and Mid America Terminals, Inc. made a joint announcement on a land purchase agreement between the two parties.  Since that time, there has been a huge amount of interest generated toward development of this port.  MAT has spoken with several major companies interested in locating and becoming part of the Mid America Terminals, Inc. port project. Initial construction and operations of land, river, rail, and truck services by MAT will create the logistics necessary for a variety of potential customers and their products.

MAT’s river port will handle products including but not limited to, steel, coal, agricultural related products, metals, warehousing, and containers.  Development plans include a   150-railcar unit train trans-loading facility for coal and other bulk materials. Handling large amounts of steel coils via barge to rail will be part of the ongoing development of MAT’s port facility.  Utilities on site include a high volume 30’ interstate gas transmission pipeline, electric power, water, and sewage.

MAT will be connecting to the main line of the Norfolk Southern Railroad that runs from Huntingburg, Indiana to Rockport, Indiana.  There are no short line railroads between MAT and NS.  Presently there are no major river/rail ports between St. Louis, Missouri and Louisville, Kentucky on the Norfolk Southern railroad line that will have the capability of handling 150-car unit trains except Mid America Terminals, Inc.

With a large acreage of flat land above the 100 year flood plain, an adjacent four lane highway (U.S. 231), access to both Interstate 64 and 65 within a short distance, a new interstate bridge (William Natcher Bridge), Norfolk Southern Railroad and the Ohio River, allow MAT the potential to become the premier logistical transportation hub for the Midwest.

Large scale investments and hundreds of sustainable jobs in new logistics technologies are being sought for Mid America Terminals, Inc. by area economic development professionals.  The local community welcomes applications for incentives from prospective companies.  The port project infrastructure development will be a catalyst for long term jobs and economic growth.
